Board of Library Trustees Announces New Executive Director
After an extensive nationwide search, Baltimore County Public Library’s Board of Trustees has named Jason Homer as the library’s sixth Executive Director. He is expected to begin the role on December 1. Homer is a public library champion and innovator with more than a decade of experience transforming libraries to meet the evolving needs of their communities.
“It is an incredible honor to join Baltimore County Public Library and become part of an institution with such a distinguished tradition of innovation, service and community impact,” said Homer. “I look forward to partnering with the talented library team to build on that legacy, deepen our connections with the communities we serve and ensure that Baltimore County’s branches continue to deliver world-class service and create opportunities for all.”
He joins the system from Worcester Public Library in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he served as Executive Director from 2020 to 2026. During his tenure, he launched system-wide initiatives to advance digital equity and technology access, strengthen partnerships with schools and community organizations and expanded services for underserved populations. In 2025, Homer was named a Library Journal “Mover and Shaker: Change Agent” for his innovative leadership and community-centered approach to library service. His previous library experience includes leadership roles at Morse Institute Library, Marlborough Public Library and Wellesley Free Library.
Homer was selected from a thorough, thoughtful and inclusive process led by the Board of Library Trustees search committee in conjunction with nationwide search firm Bradbury Miller Associates. Staff also played an integral role in the process by providing feedback and perspectives to guide the Board’s decision.
“Jason embodies the mission and values of Baltimore County Public Library, bringing fresh ideas, empowering leadership styles and a distinguished and award-winning record of service to our system’s strong foundation,” said Havaca Ganguly, Board of Library Trustees President. “The Board looks forward to his leadership as we all work together to find bold and innovative ways to serve our diverse community of 800,000.”
“Our libraries bring people together and connect residents of all ages with opportunities to learn and grow,” said Baltimore County Executive Kathy Klausmeier. “Jason’s work to expand access to technology, strengthen partnerships and support literacy will serve Baltimore County well. We’re pleased to welcome him to Baltimore County and look forward to working with him to build on the services our residents value and rely on.”
Homer holds his Bachelors of Arts from Stonehill College and his master’s in Library and Information Science from Simmons University and has served in leadership roles with library, cultural, and civic organizations.
As Executive Director, Homer will oversee a 50-million-dollar operating budget for Baltimore County Public Library’s 19 branches and four mobile libraries. He will also lead a 500-person staff.
