Library Now Offering CharmCards at Four Branches
Today’s libraries are far more than books—they are community hubs connecting people with essential resources and services. Recognizing the importance of accessibility and our role in supporting neighbors, we are proud to offer 7-day MTA CharmCard passes for purchase at our Essex, Lansdowne, Randallstown and Towson branches. These branches were chosen based on the proximity to bus lines and locations spread throughout Baltimore County.
By providing this service, we aim to make it more convenient for community members, including those who rely on public transit, to access affordable transportation options. Customer may use cash, debit or credit card to make the purchase at the service desk of the participating branches.
What Is the CharmCard?
The CharmCard is a rechargeable smart fare card, which costs $22. It is valid for unlimited travel on CityLink, LocalLink, Light Rail and Metro SubwayLink for seven consecutive days from the time the pass is first activated. Additionally, the card can be used for any regional service in Washington, D.C., Prince George’s and Montgomery counties, or wherever the CharmCard photo is posted.
To use, simply tap the card on the top of the farebox on the local bus or at the faregate as you enter the Metro Subway. For the Light Rail, cardholders can select SMART CARD at the ticket vending machine and follow the directions. The CharmCard is not transferable and can only be used by one person. After the pass expires, a new pass can be purchased or value may be added to the existing CharmCard online, at an MTA ticket vending machine or a bus farebox. All the above locations accept cash or credit.
Helping Neighbors
This new initiative helps our strategic goal of breaking down barriers within the community. These passes not only give customers a centralized location to obtain a card, but they also create a way for customers to visit a majority of our branches to use a myriad of our services to explore, learn, create and connect.
