The Towson Branch is a landmark building in the heart of Towson. Its expansive, contemporary concrete architecture, designed by Tatar & Kelly Architects, adds to its prominence. While the current building was constructed in 1974 and expanded in 1990, the Towson Library dates back to 1936. Serving residents of the county seat and the surrounding area, the Towson Branch offers a full array of materials, programs and services for its diverse customer population as well as an ever changing wealth of electronic resources for children and adults. Public computers provide Internet access in addition to Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Wireless internet access is available throughout the building. The branch also houses a rich collection of local historical maps and books for history buffs. Garage parking is available in the Baltimore County Revenue Authority parking garage directly behind the library with entrances from Chesapeake Avenue and Towsontown Boulevard.
In addition to large book and AV collections for adults, teens, and kids, this branch offers the following:

Customers approaching the children's area of the Towson Branch see first the "stone" walls and turrets of a castle. As they pass through the castle entrance the children's area opens up before them. Inside, the castle wall provides stairs upward for a view over the wall; below, a hideaway. In addition, the branch hosts a play area for children under 3 years. The Towson Dragon
The Towson Branch invites children of all ages to play. Our Towson Dragon, a outdoor playable art feature, provides opportunities for teaching early literacy skills in a whimsical environment. Children can count the Dragon's features, solve a maze, walk a path from "home" to the Towson Branch, name the colors and creatures in the design, or just let their imaginations soar. Finding the five artists' and painters' names hidden in the design is fun, too!
The Towson Dragon was made possible through funding provided by the Friends of the Towson Library. Artist Sydney Hopkins, creator of the castle-themed children's area inside the branch, created the final design which was inspired by , and with permission from, author/illustrator Gail Gibbons.
