Under construction iconThe Essex Branch temporarily closed on October 1, 2014 for extensive internal renovations and repairs.

It is expected to re-open in early December.

 

The book drop is not available. Returns can be made at any other branch. Hold requests that were placed for pickup at the Essex Branch or that were not picked up by September 30 have been sent to our North Point Branch.

 

Planned renovations include new shelving to accommodate more materials, paint, carpet and an updated information desk. New computers will also be installed. Closing the branch temporarily allows the work to be done in a timely manner in order to get the branch fully back up and running.

 

While the branch is closed, please visit nearby libraries such as the North Point, Sollers Point, Rosedale and White Marsh branches, which are accessible by public transit from the Essex community.

About This Branch

 

Services:

Located in the Middlesex Shopping Center, the Essex Branch has over 14,000 square feet filled with books, CDs, DVDs, magazines and much more. A computer center provides free internet and word processing. Children's computers have a wide variety of stories and learning games for preschoolers. Story times, family programs and computer training activities are frequent events. The building, which opened in 1969, is decorated with a Chesapeake Bay theme featuring an aquarium and lighthouse.

 

Local History

The library maintains a history of Essex-Middle River as well as historical photographs of the Essex, Middle River and Back River communities via our historic Legacy Web photo collection.
