The Essex Branch reopened on Monday, December 8 at 9 a.m. for its normal business hours. Join us for the official all day Essex Library Grand Reopening Celebration on Saturday, December 13.

About This Branch

Services:

Located in the Middlesex Shopping Center, the Essex Branch has over 14,000 square feet filled with books, CDs, DVDs, magazines and much more. A computer center provides free internet and word processing. Children's computers have a wide variety of stories and learning games for preschoolers. Story times, family programs and computer training activities are frequent events. The building, which opened in 1969, is decorated with a Chesapeake Bay theme featuring an aquarium and lighthouse.

 

The Essex Branch underwent a significant renovation in the fall of 2014.  Below are a few pictures showing the improved interior of the branch when in reopened on December 8, 2014. You can also tour the newly renovated Essex Branch in this podcast of "Inside BCPL!" (3:37)

Local History

The library maintains a history of Essex-Middle River as well as historical photographs of the Essex, Middle River and Back River communities via our historic Legacy Web photo collection.
